Mission

The mission of the Newlyn PZ Film Festival is to raise the profile of filmmaking within the South West and to support local filmmakers through networks and recognition. Newlyn and West Penwith form a unique environment for filmmakers, both in terms of locations and local talent and creativity. The varied festival programme aims to encourage filmmakers from all backgrounds as well as attracting new audiences to short film. We aim to cover the full possibilities of creative filmmaking through the range of award categories and careful scheduling of each screening session. Encouraging networking for all attendees.

2020 Festival

We’re excited to be starting our third festival run over the weekend of Friday 24th- Sunday 26th April 2020

The selected feature films will be given a priority screening slot. The Film Festival is truly a celebration of film, created and curated with the filmmakers in mind. Our festival is about more than just watching films, and we will create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees to enjoy and discuss between screenings in comfortable and relaxed environments.

Much of the value we offer comes from attending and enjoying the event, networking with the other filmmakers, and assessing the audience reactions to your film. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2020 event.

Prizes

The Prizes will be Awarded by a panel of esteemed judges this prestigious award will be chosen from amongst the nominated films meaning all films entered into any category are automatically eligible.

Conditions

The Newlyn Film Festival is open to everyone, regardless of your age, experience or genre of your film and there’s an award that could be yours, the different categories are: Best Fiction Film Prize (under 45 minutes), Best Student Film (under 15 minutes, open to any genre of Fiction or Documentary film including animation, and experimental. If the film is not in English then English subtitles are required.) and Best Documentary ( 45 minutes or less, Open to all documentary films. If the film is not in English then English subtitles are required) , and a special prize for Poetry Films (six minutes or less).

Plus new categories:

Best Woman Director

The film must be directed by a woman and the script must feature a female protagonist.

Best Short Screenplay – Under 30 pages.

Best Cornish Film – Made by a Cornish Director or filmed in Cornwall.

Best student / youth under 18 with the Theme “ Our Planet “

Please contact us if you are unsure as to your film’s eligibility. All submissions are preferred in standard digital HD format. All films submitted to film freeway.
